Origin
Rye Line was founded in 2021 by Elsa Peixoto, who spent years designing inside larger fashion and textile companies before choosing to build something entirely her own.
She wanted design to lead, not follow, pieces shaped by an idea rather than a trend cycle, materials chosen first, decisions made with time instead of urgency. She wanted to build in Portugal, with the techniques Portuguese hands have carried for generations, not as heritage on display, but as the actual method: honest materials, worked slowly, by people treated as partners, not suppliers.
Rye Line is what that instinct became: a brand where every form is deliberately its own, built with responsibility and built to last, on her own terms, from the very first piece.
The Evolution
Rye Line didn't arrive as a finished idea. It grew, one material and one technique at a time, from the first woven baskets to sculptural velvet, from Capim Dourado to reimagined macramé. Four chapters, each with its own material and its own logic.
The Process
Rye Line pieces are not accessories in the conventional sense. They are objects, with mass, volume, and structural presence that exists independently of the person who carries them.
The design language is built on a radical premise: the construction technique is the form. There is no separation between how a piece is made and what it looks like. The twisted velvet cords of the Nerea are not decoration applied over a bag structure, they are the structure. The macramé of the Sophie is not a surface treatment,it is the architecture.
Traditional Portuguese techniques, macramé, braiding, knotting, are not reproduced. They are completely reimagined. Velvet cords replace conventional macramé thread. Traditional knots are substituted with original node structures. Mixed fibres create surfaces that have no precedent in luxury accessories.
Every piece should be communicated as what it is: a designed object that happens to be carried. Not a bag with interesting details, an object with a life of its own.
Design Signature
The twisted velvet cords of the Nerea are not decoration applied over a structure. They are the structure.
The two-texture weave of the Camille and Petit Camille, dense at the top, open diamond below, is a technique that belongs only to Rye Line.
It's the reaction we hear most often, unprompted: “These are so different.” Not because difference was the goal, but because nothing here was designed by looking sideways at what everyone else was making.
We don't discount.
Prices reflect the craft, not the calendar, they may rise as the work grows, but they are never inflated to be marked down later, never discounted to create urgency. What you pay is never a number to wait out.

What are your pieces made from?
Natural and recycled materials, chosen for what they are — junco, wicker, velvet cord, organic cotton, silk, Capim Dourado. Nothing hidden, nothing decorative. Each product page lists the exact composition.
Is every piece truly unique?
Yes. Each one is handcrafted in Portugal, by hand, by the same artisans who shape the next. Small variations in weave, cord, or material are part of the making — not a flaw. No two pieces are ever exactly the same.
Why does a piece cost what it does?
Because nothing about it was rushed. Every hour of craft, every material chosen for honesty over convenience, every piece made in limited number — that is what you're carrying.
How do I care for it?
Spot clean with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Keep it away from prolonged sun. Store it in its dust bag. Simple, because the materials were chosen to last.

Elsa Peixoto is a former creative director and senior designer who knows the industry from the inside — and chose, in clarity, to leave it.
She builds with artisans, not through them. She does the hard work of material research herself. Some pieces are still made by her hands alone, start to finish — no one else touches them.
She is direct, has opinions, and states them — grounded in professional experience, not emotion alone.
